IF IT’S WORTH DOING, IT’S WORTH DOING POORLY

I recognize that runs opposite a lot of the wisdom we were taught as children, and it isn’t WRONG to want to do things well.
But it’s probably preventing you from getting started on the life you truly want for yourself.
See, the thing is: You’re not living it yet.
You’re here and reading this because you know you want better for yourself, and maybe you know exactly what that looks like. Maybe you have no idea what it looks like, you just know THIS isn’t it.
So you know you need to make a change. You need to get your eating right, or get going to the gym regularly, or you need to get into work earlier, or have more patience with your kids
Or
Or
Or
Each of these things will require behavior change…and that behavior change will require lots of stumbles, false starts, trips, slips, and all-around fuck ups.
The sooner you accept that the sooner you can start making the small changes that make the big changes possible.
The sooner you accept: “today I don’t have it in the tank to make a full lunch prep for tomorrow…but I can throw an apple in my bag so I at least have a serving of fruit brought with me” as the win that it is (because it is, y’all. It is.)
The sooner you’ll arrive at the point that you DO have the energy to build out lunch.
Sometimes showing up for your goals is a messy half-step.
It’s walking into the gym and sitting down on the couch in the locker room. Then walking back out 15 minutes later, having never touched a machine.
That’s still a win.
Sometimes it’s starting to yell…but then stopping.
And sure, feeling bad that you started to yell in the first place, but recognizing the win that stopping was.
Because it was.
Sometimes it’s wanting to do the dishes, but only getting as far as rinsing them.
Sometimes it’s even just wanting to take a shower, but only getting as far as letting the water run over you.
Before you make the changes you WANT to see yourself making
YOU
WILL
DO
IT
POORLY
FIRST
It’s not a fault in your wiring. It’s just the first step. Or fourth step. Or randomly a 17th step.
We keep showing up.
We Just. Stop. Stopping.
Go slay the day babies.
